The X-Files | July Update

You got the teaser of the Duchovny and Anderson selfie yesterday, now it's time to look at July in terms of the revival. Let's just say a lot more happened than in June.

From now on, I'm going to be splitting this up into segments like last time. July definitely had more progress with literally everything than June did, so I assume it's an ascent into heaven from here.

July started out with FOX hinting that they were going to announce something. Now, I thought they were going to announce a Blu-Ray box set. They've been showing HD versions of episodes in Germany and gradually on the US Netflix, but alas I was wrong.

Instead, FOX announced an awesome marathon to bring us all up to the revival together; by watching the series from the beginning for 201 days. They also released a trailer that got me extremely emotional. But I missed the whole meltdown of the trailer at the first watch, as I didn't even notice the new footage of Mulder and Scully at the end due to the combination of a horrific internet connection and my Brother leaning back on my laptop.

I don't even have words to describe what that felt like when I did actually see it. All I can say is that it brought tears to my eyes. And made me extremely giddy for the next week.

There's not much description needed here, other than X-Files being in the age of social media is a gift to this planet. And also, I finally got my hands on my first magazine with X-Files on the cover. I'm living out my 90s dream.

I apologize, but this is going to have to be in caps. WE GOT OUR FIRST SCENE OF MULDER AND SCULLY TALKING. Albeit two lines, but oh was it glorious. They sound so defeated though, which is worrying in a 'I don't want to see my adopted parents hurt' sort of way.

I don't know what it is with the new footage, but the whole of that promo felt like old school X-Files. Maybe it's because they're back to filming in Vancouver, the direction or the imagery. It feels like it's come home.

I think FOX deleted the first promo of the revival that they released, but it was basically the second without the scene between Mulder and Scully at the end. They were both shown during episodes of Wayward Pines, which you all should totally watch if you haven't already. It's like a crossover between Twin Peaks and The Truman Show

I first found Kumail Nanjiani through his amazing podcast, The X-Files Files. A podcast which was actually one of the catalysts for getting the revival to move forward. He's managed to get so many people on the show on there it's beautiful. It makes me feel normal for loving the show and wanting to talk about it all the time. Mainly to myself, though. I think everyone gets annoyed with me talking about it so much which is kind of depressing.

Silicon Valley started showing on Sky Atlantic, and I remember him talking about it on the podcast when he was filming it. It's ended up being one of my favourite shows, and Nanjiani has ended up being one of my favourite actors/comedians.

Since they announced the revival, the X-Files fandom and myself were all campaigning for him to get a role on the show. He stopped doing the podcasts for 2 months and we were all wondering why, turns out he managed to get a part! He said recently that he had to stop doing the podcasts after learning about it because he couldn't process the fact he was actually going to be on his favourite show, a show that means a hell of a lot to him. Which I totally agree with, I would have to clear my mind before processing that sort of experience, which is exactly what he did.

There was also some new cast announcements in the form of  Robbie Amell (The Flash) and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), who are going to be playing two new FBI Agents - Agent Miller and Agent Einstein. I know, I can't believe those are their names either. But, they look mysteriously similar to Mulder and Scully, so I'm expecting some hilarious scenes between the four of them.

Now. I'm an atheist, so I don't know who granted my wish to bring my boys back. BUT THEY'RE BACK. Dean Haglund (Langley) confirmed it on Twitter, and I couldn't be happier. I'm intrigued as to how they're bringing them back though, after the state they were left in last season of the series. They better not come back in flashback, that's for sure.
